As we watch events unfold with our continental and Mediterranean neighbours, we consider that it is our responsibility to once again vigorously emphasize our deepest commitment to human rights and democracy.
We condemn and reject those who undermine the public trust, those who do not respect fundamental freedoms and rights, and those who demolish the pillars of democracy.
Monday marked the 80th anniversary of a coup d’etat in the Spanish State, the horrors and consequences of which are particularly present this week, and which we hope others can learn from and avoid. To the same extent, we reject the terrible consequences following the loss of fundamental freedoms, and therefore condemn the temporary suspension of the European Convention on Human Rights announced by the Turkish Government.
To all those who are suffering the situation in Turkey
we keep you in our thoughts
