The Catalan National Assembly, Òmnium Cultural, legal association DRETS and the Platform for Catalan Sports Teams will hand out 10,000 Scottish flags to Barça supporters attending the Cup final between Barça and Sevilla, this Sunday at the Vicente Calderón stadium. The idea is that Barça supporters display their flags when the players take to the pitch before the game begins, and 17 minutes, 14 seconds into play.
Faced with the decision of the Spanish government’s representative in Madrid, Concepción Dancausa, to prohibit Estelada flags from entering the stadium, Catalan civic organizations have decided to make ourselves heard buy filling the stands with Scottish flags. We’ve chosen this symbol because it highlights the different treatment that Catalonia receives from Spain, compared with the UK government’s treatment of Scotland – a key difference is the freedom to fly the flags that identify us – and because Catalonia, like Scotland, wants to decide its future democratically.
We call out to all the fans attending the final to come and pick up a Scottish flag and display it in the Vicente Calderón stadium during the match. There are several ways to get your flag:
